Forthcoming Exhibition at Gairloch Museum July - August 2023

An exploration in colour and texture.

I am motivated as an artist to use drawing and painting as a means of expression of the senses, of what I see, feel and think about a particular subject. It is a journey and creative process for me, just as poetry is to the poet and music to the musician.

My paintings are a result of the observation of the landscape, and also in the close encounters of the seen and the hidden happenings in nature, though the seasons of change and cycles of life. They are a mixture of abstract, realism and imagination.

I continue to work in watercolour and mixed media but have also returned to oil painting on large square canvases. My focus and interest at present is the environment, the biodiversity of wildlife on our farm, the animals, insects, herbs, grasses and wild flowers that grow in the fields. I walk the farm often with the working collies, taking photographs and sketching. Paintings are developed in the studio from these sources and from memory and imagination. The flowers and plants in my paintings are expressed within the magical world of nature, the secret, mystical world of life, beneath and above the ground. Magic exists in nature in a world of change, of intense light and mysterious darkness. Many of my paintings are my visual interpretation of this magic
